We've renamed many Firefox support articles. For example, [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode] to [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
I think we should rename Thunderbird articles, too. For example:
*[[Safe Mode TB]] to '''Troubleshoot Thunderbird issues using Safe Mode'''
*[[Profiles TB]] to '''Profiles - Where Thunderbird stores your messages, addresses and other user data''' corrected
*[[Blocking a sender]] to '''Block someone from sending emails to you'''
*etc.
I agree, IIRC I started a more general thread about that last year.

Do Thunderbird / Firefox aticles need renaming for disambiguation ?

I don't see a problem with changing the titles now. Would any of you like to organize/lead this effort? I won't be able to get involved much with this project this month, but I'm always available for questions/advice.

<snip>
There's some low hanging fruit here, because many of the articles are Thunderbird versions of Firefox articles.
"Updating Firefox" was renamed to "Update Firefox to the latest version", so we could rename "Update Thunderbird to the latest version" to "Update Thunderbird to the latest version"
"Profiles" was renamed to "Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data", so we could rename "Profiles - Where Thunderbird stores your messages and other user data" (eww) to "Profiles - Where Thunderbird stores your messages, addresses and other user data"
"How do I customize the toolbars?" was renamed to "Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars", so we could rename "How to Customize Toolbars" to "Customize Thunderbird controls, buttons and toolbars"
"Safe mode" was renamed to "Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode", so we could rename "Troubleshoot Mode Thunderbird" (another eww) to "Troubleshoot Thunderbird issues using Safe Mode"
<snip>
Yes, we might need to rename and fine tune some of the articles. I don't know how many there are yet, but I will work closely with Roland in Q2 on a content audit.
More updates soon.
That was last year. I wonder ... was there ever a content audit of Thunderbird articles?
It could get messy discussing all of the possible TB articles to be renamed in one discussion thread. Instead of one big project, a better another option might be to start a discussion thread in each of the individual KB article discussion forums with the proposed new title(s) and a link to this thread for the background....and do a few articles at a time, such as when they come up for review.

Another TB article that could use renaming, '''[[Using Multiple Profiles]]''' was mentioned by John99 in [/forums/knowledge-base-articles/710016], as causing confusion in the forum "insert a link" tool. It could be renamed to <s>Using</s> '''Use multiple profiles in Thunderbird''' or, since the content is similar to [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]], to '''Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Thunderbird profiles'''

I think we should rename Thunderbird articles, too. For example: <snip>
Blocking a sender to Block someone from sending emails to you
I looked at the article and, since it involves Thunderbird and message filters, I think a better title would be: Create message filters for Thunderbird to block unwanted emails
P.S. Here are the Thunderbird articles that we said need renaming, so far. Discussion threads in the individual kbforums on renaming the articles either already existed or I started one and added the proposed new titles:

To do this systematically, we could go through the top articles for Thunderbird, post them here, and ask for suggestions. When suggesting a new name, I think it should preferably include "Thunderbird" in the title.

I posted a link to this thread in /forums/contributors/711131 as well as in the individual kbforums for the Thunderbird articles where we have proposed a new name. Hopefully interested Thunderbird contributors will add their input.
My practice has been to wait a short time after posting a suggested new name in the individual kbforum for that article before making the change, in case there are any objections or other suggestions.

My personal opinion is that ANY reviewer can change an article title or slug. Some guidelines are in [[How to write Knowledge Base articles]] under [/kb/how-to-write-knowledge-base-articles#w_pick-a-good-title Pick a good title].

There is a pending name change suggestion to Quick Filter bar for this one (which was probably never noticed by anyone, like the update request).

Avoid adding product names like "Firefox", "Firefox OS" and "Thunderbird". They are automatically added to the title, so consider them in your character limit.

Avoid adding product names like "Firefox", "Firefox OS" and "Thunderbird". They are automatically added to the title, so consider them in your character limit.
For the record, project names ("Firefox Help - Mozilla Support", "Firefox OS Help - Mozilla Support", "Thunderbird Help - Mozilla Support") are automatically added to titles, so there's no need to write them in. We should also factor them into our character limit.
Example: http://imgur.com/b0V3MHX
I've been guilty of adding the product names myself (an old habit from my previous life in SEO). However, most search engines do recognize SUMO as an official site, so we already rank higher for branded terms like product names.
I've updated this article with this guideline: Writing guide for Knowledge Base articles

Joni cancelled that suggestion and removed it from [[How to write Knowledge Base articles]] under the "[/kb/how-to-write-knowledge-base-articles#w_pick-a-good-title Pick a good title]" section. We should ''use our best judgement when naming articles (whatever gets the concept across in a succinct, but search-friendly way.)'' See [/forums/knowledge-base-articles/711145#post-64534]
I don't see a problem with changing the titles now. Would any of you like to organize/lead this effort? I won't be able to get involved much with this project this month, but I'm always available for questions/advice.
I'm not interested in organizing or leading this effort. Is anyone else?
I made a list of the top 70 Thunderbird KB articles (see above) so that people can decide which ones need to be renamed. I also started threads in the individual kbforums for articles where a new title has been suggested. That's as far as I want to go with this.

I should be able to and am willing to do so, unless anyone else is (maybe someone more close to or who is part of staff members?).
A few notes/questions:
1) I do think we should keep a little consistecy in using capitals after the "-" in new TB titles, which is currently not always the case in some FF articles *. I.e. when using a new "Keyboard shortcuts - Perform common Thunderbird tasks quickly" title, I think we should also use "Config Editor - Change advanced settings in Thunderbird". Unless there is a valid reason not to of course, so is there any?
2) Should the articles involved include self-approved empty edits to cause "artificial" email noticiations reflecting title changes. or will this discussion be enough?
3) This only involves the 11 articles mentioned above, right? (Or 12 with 66. included)
4) Does this "job" include changing old title links in all referring articles, or should they be left for future edits?
*How about an action to make this consistent for FF ad other product's articles?

Thank you all for pursuing this important work. And thank you tonnes for volunteering. Can someone reply to him?
Note - many thunderbird contributors don't hang in the SUMO forums - it might be near zero but I'm not sure. So I it's not suprising tonnes is the only one to reply.
I've posted about this initiative to tb-support-crew@mozilla.org to seek additional involvement. (tb-support-crew is a mailing list which encompasses Thunderbird contributors that are not just SUMO)
