Firefox 15.0.1 gives an error message when trying to log into my account @u.boisestate.edu

barbforrest

I'm at student at Boise State. When I try to log into my broncomail account, or when I try to access broncomail through the Firefox Mail, I get the following message.

The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept
   cookies.

Cookies are not disabled, and I've not had this problem with prior versions of Firefox.

The other thing I'm noticing is that the little green circle on the tabs for Blackboard and BroncoWeb often never seem to stop spinning.

Reloading Firefox usually doesn't help that much because most issues are caused by settings and customizations. Before trying that, you might want to try Firefox's Reset feature. More info in this article: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

I should have checked this before... when I click Login to Broncomail, I end up at Google. Is Broncomail actually a custom version of Gmail? I think one or two people report this problem on Gmail every week.

The typical cause probably is crossed up cookies, so if you didn't already clear your google.com cookies, please try that.

Regarding performance issues, try disabling Firefox's use of hardware accelerated graphics. You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced

On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first) using either of these:

  • While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

It still gives me the same old error message. This is a pretty new (3 months old) HP laptop. I downloaded the new version of Firefox two or three days ago and have been having the problem since. Plus, it's terribly slow to load web pages.

Is there a possibility that I need to delete and then reload the entire program?

I don't know if this is relevant, but this is a clip from the page info meta data on the BroncoWeb site===> IE=edge,chrome=1

 Thank you.

If clearing cookies doesn't work then it is possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

You can also try to reset Firefox:
