Why does this symbol †or â show up in my email messages almost always? I know it is a coding problem. I think it is a problem with Firefox. There use to be a button to change from unicode to western of back but now it does not work. I do not know how to code is there a fix. I think Firefox needs fix. Running Win7 and Firefox 91.0.1 64 Bit.

It is my email that I get it a lot. I use Juno.com.
Thank you for that detail. I mistook that you were using Firefox. Is it possible for you to check the character encoding on Thunderbird to validate that it is indeed set accurately. A similar issue was reported earlier and you can check the steps here.

Note that you get this when the text is Unicode, but the servers sends it as an eight bit Windows encoding (i.e. you see the combining Unicode characters). See also:
