When I type in the URL bar in Firefox the cursor return to the left side of the input field area. This generates the word backwards.

I have to log out as windows user and log back in to correct this. Closing Firefox does not correct it.

You may have hit the Shift key by accident while cutting text via Ctrl+X. You can flip the bidi text direction from right-to-left to left-to-right with "Shift+Ctrl+X".

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance.
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

You get this when the position of the cursor if fixed, so anything you type in entered at the current position and what is already present is pushed to the right. In older days this issue could be caused by Java applets, but since current Firefox releases no longer support plugins other that Flash, Java can't do this.

Does this happen often and can you reproduce it after opening a specific page in a tab?
