That was what Launch Page is and was an attempt at a hijack... All is well now

Initial diagnostic question: Does the same problem occur with a new window (Ctrl+n)?

Firefox should display your home page(s) in a new window. If a new window has the same problem, then it may be a problem with the home page setting.

See: How to set the home page

If the problem is that you get both a page you want AND a page you don't want: Firefox's Home Page setting actually allows multiple home page tabs. It may be hard to see, but there's a vertical bar between URLs in the home page address box. For example:

https://www.google.com/|https://www.mozilla.org/

When removing an unwanted address, I suggest deleting from right to left and removing the vertical bar last. Otherwise, the first address might become corrupted with extraneous characters.

If the unwanted page does not appear in a new window:

What is the address of the launch page? It might be in the address bar, or you might need to use the Page Info dialog. Either:

  • right-click a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info
  • (menu bar) Tools menu > Page Info

On the General panel, you can triple-click the URL to the right of Address to select it, then either Ctrl+c to copy it, or right-click>Copy, and you can paste it into a reply.

This hopefully will help us understand what's going on and point toward how to fix it.

I have no page I want and Mozilla.com (my startup page) does not appear any more after today. I think Quick Launch is an app but I did not and do not want it. On my preferences I have default marked on all but one choice now, and that is NO ADD-ONS. " I had no parallel line to distinguish a choice of want or don't want."

I just want the add-on or whatever it is GONE so I can get on with my work.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

@jennylynn55 :

That hmyquickconverter.com is a browser hijacker, which you will of course need to get rid of.

Go to the 3-bar menu => Addons => Extensions and look for any unfamiliar or suspicious looking extensions, like e.g.:

SafeSearch Incognito SearchAssist Incognito

When you find any :   remove them.

Also look in : 3-bar menu (or 'Tools') => Options => Advanced => Network tab => Under : 'Offline Web Content and User Data'

As the OP of this thread is 'ahalp2' and I don't know if you're on Windows - if you are : Do the same in Windows' Control Panel => Programs.

However :   most malware will be 'hiding' somewhere , so let's run malware scans :

Further information can be found in this article :

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners.
They all work differently   -   what one program doesn't pick up, the other might.

For you goes the same as for jennylynn55 , for launch.page.org is a browser hijacker.
