This article summarizes the Firefox Settings panels and what types of settings they contain. In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Firefox and then select Preferences or Settings, depending on your macOS version.Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings. The following panels are available:

General panel

This panel contains optionspreferences for the following types of settings:

General
Startup, Home Page and Tabs: This is where you can set Firefox as your default browser, change what pages open when Firefox starts and choose how tabs or windows are opened.

Language and Appearance
Fonts & Colors and Language: This is where you can Change the fonts and colors websites use, choose a language and choose whether Firefox uses spell-checking.

Files and Applications
Downloads, Applications and Digital Rights Management (DRM) Content: This is where you can change the download folder Firefox uses to save files, change the application used or the action taken for different file types and choose whether to Watch DRM content in Firefox.

Firefox Updates
This is where you can check your update history or change update settings for Firefox.

Performance
This is where you can customize performance settings in Firefox.

Browsing
This is where you can choose settings for scrolling, using the cursor (Caret Browsing mode) or searching for text in webpages.

Network Proxy
This is where you can change Firefox connection settings and set a proxy to connect to the Internet.

Search panel

This panel contains optionspreferences related to the search engine Firefox uses by default and other search settings. For more information, see Change your default search settings in Firefox.

Privacy & Security panel

This panel contains optionspreferences for the following types of settings:

Browser Privacy
Forms & Passwords, History, Address Bar, Cached Web Content , Site Data, and Tracking Protection: This is where you can control what Firefox fills into forms and manage passwords, set how Firefox handles browsing history including visited webpages, downloaded files and website cookies, set how the address bar works, where you can clear the Firefox cache, where you can manage website data storage and where you can control settings for the Firefox Tracking Protection and Do Not Track features.

Permissions
This is where you can decide whether websites can send you Web Push notifications, show you pop-up windows and whether Firefox should warn you when websites try to install add-ons.

Firefox Data Collection and Use
This is where you can decide whether Firefox should send technical and interactive data to Mozilla, install and run studies or send crash reports to Mozilla.

Security
Phishing Protection, Certificates, and Offline Web Content and User Data: This is where you can decide whether to block dangerous content or downloads in Firefox, view and manage website certificates and security devices, and where you can manage website data storage. Deceptive Content and Dangerous Software Protection and Certificates: This is where you can view and manage website certificates and security devices and where you can block dangerous content or downloads in Firefox.

Firefox Account panel

This panel lets you set up or manage a Firefox Account, which is needed to access certain Mozilla services, including Sync. See How do I set up Sync on my computer? and How do I choose what information to sync on Firefox? for more information.

General panel

This panel contains optionspreferences related to the most commonly used settings, such as what you first see when Firefox starts and where Firefox saves file downloads. For more information, see Startup, home page, tabs, and download settings.

Search panel

This panel contains optionspreferences related to the search engine Firefox uses by default and other search settings. For more information, see Change your default search settings in Firefox.

Content panel

This panel contains optionspreferences related to how websites are displayed. For more information, see Settings for web content, pop-ups, fonts, and languages.

Applications panel

This panel lets you decide how Firefox should handle different types of files. It shows you a list of content types and lets you select an action for each type, such as opening with an application or saving the file. Privacy panel

This panel contains optionspreferences related to your privacy. As you browse the web, information on where you have been, what pages you have visited, etc. are stored here. For more information, see Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track.

Security panel

This panel contains optionspreferences related to keeping your web browsing safe. For more information, see Security and passwords settings.

Sync panel

This panel lets you set up or manage a Firefox Sync account. Firefox Sync is a service that lets you synchronize your bookmarks, history, passwords and open tabs with another copy of Firefox – like one on another computer or on a mobile phone. Advanced panel

This panel contains optionspreferences for settings that aren't used that often, such as clearing the disk cache, certificate settings, proxy settings, settings for Firefox updates and various advanced settings that only certain people may need.
