Adobe Acrobat installed but doesn't show up in plugins list

I need to have Acrobat reader for some of my work files but for some reason when I load the web page that uses the reader it I get a gray screen that says "A plugin is needed to display this content". Of course the plugin is Adobe Reader, which I already have installed. The web page works fine when I open it in IE, so I know that the reader is installed and working. When I go to About:Plugins Adobe is not in the list.

I've searched everywhere and tried everything that I can find but nothing works.

You are correct. I completely forgot that I was running Waterfox. I closed it and opened Firefox and the Adobe plugin is there and it works.

I will look to Waterfox support to see if there is a solution for this issue.

My humblest apologies to all who tried to help.

If you cannot get the plugin to work, you could use Adobe Acrobat as a helper application and have the pdf files open in an Acrobat window. You can set that up in Options > Applications.

Thank you, but that did not work for me. I enabled it in the Options menu but I guess the website that I am using will not allow it to display externally. It just keeps telling me that I need the plugin.

Well, the first step is to get the Adobe plugin installed or updated. Could you check here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category

The current versions are Adobe Acrobat 10.1.6 or 11.0.02. (Note that to get 10.1.6 you need to install 10.1.4 and upgrade from there.) Can you find either of those? Note that disabled plugins cluster toward the bottom of the list.

If you have an older version of Adobe Reader, it might be blocklisted by Firefox. This is a feature that disables insecure add-ons. In that case, you'll need to update. Make sure to uncheck any unwanted extras: http://get.adobe.com/reader/

There are only four plugins listed....Java Development Toolkit 7.0.170.2 10.17.2.2, Java Platform SE 10.17.2.2, LogMeIn and Shockwave Flash 11.6.602.180. There are no Adobe plugins installed, and no matter how many times I download and install Adobe Acrobat, it is never installed in FF.

I do have the Adobe Acrobat plugin installed on my computer, ver 11.0.01.36, and it works fine in the IE browser.

Thank you for your assistance.

Could you see whether you can manually copy the nppdf32.dll file.

Source: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\Browser

Destination: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins

If you have moved these locations, you could search your drive(s) for nppdf32.dll to find it.

Didn't have the plugins folder so I created it and copied the nppdf32.dll file into it, but it didn't help.

No Plugins folder? Hmmm...

I just noticed your useragent string. Are you running Waterfox? You might want to check with their support on whether there is a compatible Adobe plugin and, if so, how to install it.
