When I try to create a new folder, Firefox hangs and I have to kill the process manually. I have tried it with other browsers such as IE and they work fine on my system. The problem is quite similar to what mentioned in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/890781 and I have also tried uninstalling firefox completely and re-installing it again but it did not solve my problem!

My machine is a Win 7 64-bit enterprise and firefox 13.0.1. The problem also happens with latest versions of Firefox Aurora.

Hi,

Please check if this happens in Safe Mode. Safe mode disables the installed Extensions, and themes (Appearance) in Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons. Hardware acceleration is also temporarily disabled - the manual setting is Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Use hardware acceleration when available. All these settings/options/add-ons can also be individually or collectively disabled/enabled/changed in Firefox normal mode to check if an extension, theme, option or hardware acceleration is causing issues. Disabling/enabling hardware acceleration, and some types of add-ons in normal mode may require a Firefox restart.

If the problem persists you could also try to check in Windows Safe Mode to rule out external factors.

Hi, I just tested it in safe mode and the problem still occurs. Moreover, just to be more precise about the problem, when you create a new folder, firefox hangs when you try to change the name of the newly created folder. In other words, if you do not type anything and just create a folder with default windows names ("New folder" , "New folder (1)",...) then firefox does not hang there. (have not tried the Windows in Safe mode though yet)

It would be more helpful to isolate the problem if you could also check in Windows Safe Mode, for e.g. security software interference. You can also try Firefox in a new user account to rule out possible Windows quirks, though in this case the AV/Firewall software would still be active.

I checked in Windows Safe Mode and the problem also happened there too,; I was even logged in as a different user in Win. Safe mode! I even tried running Firefox in safemode in Windows Safe mode, and it did not help either.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can try to check and repair the places database with this extension:

Cor-el, that has nothing to do with my problem. Firefox hangs when creating a new folder on the file system.

After soms weeks, the problem started, i could only create a new directory with the default new directory name. When trying to change the directory name, firefox is hanging till i terminate the process or kill using the not working function.

With previous firefox versions or safe mode, the same problems occur.

My current operating system: Windows 7 x64 SP1
