For example, creating a new account on amazon, when you get to the point of filling in your address, it won't let me choose a country.

Same goes for buying tickets from live nation. All the fill-in fields accept input, but the pulldowns for expiration date won't let me select one.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Try to disable hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

Well, it turns out I had to log out (apparently that never ever happens -- my kid's computer -- we go into hibernate mode all the time), log in, and voila everything works fine.

On an alternate account, everything worked. That's what made me log out/in on the problem account.

I had previously re-installed firefox (using the problem account), and my next step was to re-install Java from scratch, but not any more.

I am curious what the underlying problem could be. No other apps exhibited problems of any kind.
