My downloads are listed but won't open. Is microsaft edge somehow involved

Downloads show as listed and # of MB but won't open. Has Edge somehow blocked them from opening?

Downloads show as listed and # of MB but won't open. Has Edge somehow blocked them from opening?

Chosen solution

That should not be happening, sounds like a Win 10 glitch but hard to say.

Try checking that Firefox is set as the default browser in System --> Apps --> Default Apps. If it not Click and change to Firefox.

If it is Click and change to Edge, Reboot. Go back and change to Firefox and Reboot.

Can also give this a try fix any possible issues. If it does, Reboot.

To run the SFC command use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu and select Command Prompt (Admin). Type "SFC /SCANNOW" (without quotes or copy/paste) and press Enter. For more information on using SFC, please refer to the Microsoft KB: Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

Run the Windows Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) and System File Checker (SFC) tools as Administrator. (FOR DOING Above & Below - WINDOWS All OTHER VERSIONS - Use Search To Find Command Prompt ** Enter CMD.exe to Find COMMAND PROMPT Then Right Click & RUN AS ADMIN) Type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" (without quotes or copy/paste) and press Enter.

Windows 10 To run the DISM command use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu, then select Command Prompt (Admin). Type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" (without quotes or copy/paste) and press Enter. While running DISM you may notice the process will appear to pause at 20%. After a few minutes the operation will continue.

Note : SFC fixes files locally using files found on your system. Note : DISM goes up to Microsoft for new ones.

Last Resort Only : Please uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. Please explain the problem in detail. What happens? Error messages?

Downloads are shown as received but when I ask to open, I only get what looks like microsoft edge page with no data. Have tried reset Firefox but no change.

Are you double clicking the file to get the installer to work or if it is a pic need to do below.

Have you clicked the download then told it to open containing folder and then try running it from there ?

Jpeg and photos will open from download list but not pdf's. When I click on the download either from the lisit or just after a new pdf has downloaded, the microsoft edge screen appears for about 10 seconds with just a blank screen and then goes back to download list with nothing opened. Tried system restore with no luck. Is there a command in Edge to get it to direct downloads back to Firefox? I suspect it somehow not loading to Firefox but edge but not completing the task.

Edge should not even be in the equation as it should be Firefox downloading, opening and ....
