cursor focus shifts from Google search box
I go to google.com, click in the search box, and start typing. At some point, the cursor moves out of search box and I have to click in the search box again to continue. There's no pattern that I can see. It's not always after the same number of characters, nor is it always after the same amount of time. Any ideas? TIA

Where does the cursor go, if anywhere?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
The cursor doesn't appear to "go" anywhere; it's just not in the search box. I keep typing and nothing happens; no characters showing up anywhere else that I'm able to find.
I tested in safe mode and it worked, BUT I can't consistently get it to fail running normally. When I go to do a search, the problem occurs. When I deliberately test it, no problem. So I can't say if it's safe mode that solved the problem or if it's just too intermittent.
I presume by having me try safe mode you're thinking it's a plug in? I'm going to try disabling them all and adding back one by one and see if there's a change.

Firefox's Safe Mode disables extensions, but leaves the Flash plugin (and other plugins) fully operational.
You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
- type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return
In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions that Firefox installs on its own are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything nonessential or suspicious? If in doubt, disable.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox before the change takes effect. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Any improvement?
By the way, I just saw this post on Reddit that could be the same problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/6x61hx/anybody_else_google_loading_in_between_to_cause/ (unsolved)
The problem described in the reddit thread is similar except I'm seeing it happen with the initial search.
The cursor problem was constant and is now intermittent. That's going to make troubleshooting difficult.
Make sure that you do not accidentally press the Tab key (try whether Shift+Tab restores the focus).

That was very good work. Well done. Please flag your last post as Solved Problem so others will know.

You could test the beta version which was intended to address some problems observed with the extension in Firefox 55. I don't know whether it will help, but if you want to try it:
(A) Remove the current LastPass extension (4.1.54) from the Add-ons page, Extensions list
(B) Install the August 9th beta (4.1.62a) from this page:
