Hi Herefordian, what method were you using before? Were you clicking the "triangle" in the address bar that drops down your 10 most frequently visited sites? That button uses your history, so possibly a large part of your history is missing. Could you check using either:
- Ctrl+Shift+h
- menu: History > Show All History
If your history is gone, a couple possible causes are:
(1) Firefox is not using your regular settings
Sometimes this happens after installing Windows updates, where Firefox has permission/privilege issues. Usually fixed by shutting down Windows and starting it up again.
(2) Firefox performed a (failed) Refresh
Firefox's Refresh feature creates a new folder on the Windows desktop named Old Firefox Data. Do you see anything like that? If that has up-to-date files inside, we may be able to use that to restore your history and other missing data. More details if applicable.
(3) History was erased
This can be done manually, or using a feature to clear history when Firefox closes, or by "cleaning" software that runs outside of Firefox. This is usually not recoverable unless you make regular backups of your Firefox data.
If your Firefox bookmarks are missing, that might be easier to recover. Could you can check the Library dialog, either:
- Ctrl+Shift+b
- menu: Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks
- bookmarks menu button (next to the star) > Show All Bookmarks
In the left column, click into the various categories (Bookmarks Menu, Bookmarks Toolbar) to see what might be missing.
And please check for an Old Firefox Data folder on the desktop as that would have the latest data.
