failed update now can't open Thunderbird

silkestahl

During an automatic update, the system seemed to crash.

I now can't open Thunderbird at all to enable the update to restart. I have restarted my laptop but still experiencing the same issue.

I'm worried that if I download a 'new' Thunderbird program that I will lose all my contacts and emails, or that I will have to set everything up again from scratch.

Please can anyone advice on best way to proceed?

Do you still see Thunderbird as an installed application in the Windows Installed Programs listing? If you do, uninstall it first.

Either way, I suggest to reinstall the Thunderbird program from here. Your email should still be set up as before.

Please report back if this helped and if you notice any odd behavior. I’m particularly interested in what the Update History log (in Options > Advanced > Update tab) says. Does it report a successful update for the moment the issue occurred?
