Executable is gone after auto update

I run windows 7. I got a screen that said thunderbird updated and I could restart now or later. I chose later. Then the thunderbird executable vanished from my machine. Re-start had no effect.

Do you still see Thunderbird as an installed application in the Windows Installed Programs listing?

Either way, I suggest to reinstall the Thunderbird program from here. Your email should still be set up as before.

Please report back if this helped and if you notice any odd behavior. I’m particularly interested in what the Update History log (in Options > Advanced > Update tab) says. Does it report a successful update for the moment the issue occurred?

Thanks. Windows said it was an installed program. When I clicked "uninstall", it said there was a problem and that maybe it was already uninstalled. I downloaded setup file and it installed and startup up the program quite quickly, and all my email folders etc. were in the right place : ) The update history says that the security update was successfully installed, on the date that I lost the program. It does not list today's date in the update history, so the download I did today must not have been an update. Thanks again, Andy

Thanks for your feedback, good to hear.

A fresh install (or another one, like you did) should not be listed as an update in the Update History, but for us and other users it’s good to know the issue occurred even though that update was listed as a successful update, despite the failure.

Could you mark one of the comments above as a solution?
