Somehow I have pressed something and my google search box has disappeared from my homepage (BBC News). I'm using win 10.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Hi

I went into customise and after some peering at the screen spotted the bar and dragged it to the menu bar. I'd done this before but this time it was difficult to spot in the options. It seems to disappear regularly as I seem to "catch" my hand on something on this new laptop. The touch plate seems mega sensitive and I will move to a mouse - safer I think.

Thanks

Hi, if you mean the Firefox search box has gone, it may have moved back into the 3-bar menu. If so, you can drag it back to a toolbar while in Customize mode. Or you can just click on Restore Defaults. More - Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

If the search box has actually gone from the BBC page only, try disabling any ad-blocker add-on you may be using.

If that doesn't help, delete all references to the BBC website, as shown under the heading 'How do I remove a single website from my history?' in this article - Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox, then try the site again.

If that doesn't help, try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You will need to restart Firefox for this to take effect so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options on Windows or Preferences on Mac or Linux.
  2. Select the Advanced panel and then the General tab.
  3. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  4. Restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

If the problem is resolved, you should check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in these Knowledge base articles:

Thank you.
