how to download contacts from iphone

i've backed up my iphone 4 with itunes but can't find my contacts, i'm told that they will be stored on my browser somehow but this means nothing to me, can anyone explain please?

In iTunes Sync settings, contacts are in the "Info" category. There you may find the program you want to sync them to listed (is it Thunderbird?), or more information on where they get/got sync'd to.
