On one particular site, I am redirected to a 404 Error after successfully logging in. Does not happen in IE or Chrome.

I am having problems with one site, SparkPeople.com. Although I am able to log in successfully, through any other browser I am able to go to the Start page with no issues. With Mozilla, I can log in successfully and access any other tab but the Start page. Each time I click on it, the page flashes momentarily before I am redirected to the URL http://www.sparkpeople.com/assets/diet4/str2_update_f2.jpg, and am given a "Page Not Found-Error 404 on it.," which once again gives me the option of logging in or registering, even though I am logged in. Clearing the cache and browsing history doesn't reset whatever is wrong. So I'm not sure what to try next. As I indicated in my question, this is only a problem in Firefox. In IE or Chrome, I have no difficulties whatsoever. I have a Windows 7 operating system, version 6.1. Any help would be very much appreciated. Other than this very curious problem, I'm very happy with Mozilla.

If you are looking around in the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, "Start Page" might be associated with "Spigot" (you can click the Publisher column heading to alphabetize). To see whether you got some undisclosed bundle items, it helps to group the additions by date by clicking the "Installed on" column heading.

Yes, it's not normal for a page to redirect to an image, particularly a nonexistent image.

In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run

After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).

Any difference?

That definitely did the trick. Thank you so much. So now is there something further I need to do? I started having the problem after I had installed AdBlock, which again is odd because I've always used AdBlock on my other browsers.

By the way, I removed AdBlock, which I thought had been causing the problem, but when I went back to Mozilla in normal mode without AdBlock, I had the same problem with the start page. So I guess the problem is only solved as long as I run Firefox in safe mode and there's still an issue.. Back to you and thanks for your ongoing help.

Some extensions hide themselves from the Add-ons page in normal mode, but become visible in Safe Mode. Your "More System Details" has this list:

Extensions

   Adblock Plus 2.6.3 ({d10d0bf8-f5b5-c8b4-a8b2-2b9879e08c5d})
   Lightshot (screenshot tool) 4.6.7 ({394DCBA4-1F92-4f8e-8EC9-8D2CB90CB69B})
   Start Page 2.3 ({58d2a791-6199-482f-a9aa-9b725ec61362})
   Troubleshooter 1.1a (troubleshooter@mozilla.org)
   Coupon Alert 1.27.0.26234 (2pffxtbr@CouponAlert_2p.com) (Inactive)
HP Smart Web Printing 4.51 (smartwebprinting@hp.com) (Inactive)
   Slick Savings 3.2 (savingsslider@mybrowserbar.com) (Inactive)
   WeatherBlink 1.44.0.39553 (gcffxtbr@WeatherBlink.com) (Inactive)

Troubleshooter is the extension you installed from this site to gather that data.

Can I be suspicious of Start Page?

Open your add-ons manager. Disable a few add-ons, then restart Firefox. If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others and restart again. Let us know who the suspect is detective.

Yup - Start Page was the culprit and thank you jscher2000 and FredMcD for pointing me in the right direction. I was able to disable it immediately in add-ons manager and the problem immediately disappeared.

You guys are great. Thanks for your speedy replies!
