After the new firefox update, I cannot play videos from:

1. www.TED.com (like http://www.ted.com/playlists/81/ted_in_3_minutes)

or listen to music from: 1. http://www.air1.com/broadcast/playnow.aspx?media=listen&bt=3&

I contacted AIR1 support and they confirmed there is indeed a problem with playing music from firefox.

I have tried to resolve this by: 1. updating flash 2. uninstalling / re-installing flash 3. safe mode in firefox

Thanks!

Chosen solution

Go back to the firewall, and remove ALL rules having to do with Firefox. Also look thru the rules for anything about flash and remove them also.

Hello,

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).

To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

The video on Ted.com site is working for me, but I do not hear any sound on the Air1 site in both Firefox and Google Chrome. They seem to be using a Flash player, but I'm not seeing obvious errors in the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) that would explain this.

Thanks -- Tried but still the same problems persist :)

Finally figured it out!!!!! Was a norton firewall rule that was just blocking some flash pluggin traffice!

I randomly turned off my firewall and everything started working (stopped getting the flash hangs too).

Anyone else having this problem, try to disable your firewall completely and try the videos/music streaming again!!!

I am not a tech-oriented user. These solutions resume I know what or where the firewall settings or rules are. I'm on a Mac. Never heard of firewall rules.

All other browsers work fine IChrome, Safari. so why am I looking at having to work-around?

It's clearly a Firefox problem and after ten years of regard for what was a fine trouble-free browser, I feel betrayed.

A firewall is built in many computers, and there are others that you can install as well. The wall blocks anything that tries to connect your computer to the outside world without your permission.
