Bearshare keeps hijacking my home page. It changes my preferences even after I have set them back to "default."

Thank you, cor-el! My 14-year-old originally installed Bearshare. I managed to fix it soon after posting my question, in part using the method you referred to. I had already deleted the Bearshare program; then I deleted the Mediabar; went back to "about:config" in Firefox 4.0, returned the "bearshare" preferences to their default value, reset the homepage. . . .and voila! Meaning I didn't have to edit the registry.

But people have been complaining about this program for years. . . how can they go on?

Go to Add-ons ---> Extensions Find an extension named MediaLab, uninstall it.
