I get the message 'unsecure etc' when I try to load yahoo and google. Other web pages load ok.
I have been having problems with my internet connection. I have gone through all the fault finding, my ISP, MS, and any others that I can find. I get various error messages - cannot open page etc. I have reloaded the latest Firefox, uninstalled and re-installed adapters and as far as I can see all my drivers are up to date. The latest problem is that I cannot open Google or Yahoo, says their connection is not secure. Any ideas?

hi, what security program are you using on your pc?
I am using Bullguard as supplied by my ISP.
this problem might be happening in windows 10 accounts restricted by microsoft family parental controls. if you don't want to use this feature intentionally, you could turn that off for your account like described at: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/turn-off-microsoft-family-settings
Thanks. I do have Windows 10 and the problem seemed to start after the November update. I have just checked and can only find where I can 'Add a Child' - none selected. I cannot see where I can turn this off.
then it is likely that something else is intercepting your secure connections. to get to the bottom of this, you'd need to inspect the details of the untrusted injected certificate. please proceed like this:
- enter chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul into the addressbar
- in the page that opens, set the server location to "https://www.yahoo.com" in order to get and then view the certificate
- then please report back with the data of the issued by section of the certificate viewer.
thank you!
This is the reponse I get when trying to open google
This Connection is Untrusted
You have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.google.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.
Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified. What Should I Do?
If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.
This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate.
Certificate status Checking information Attempting to identify this site ...
is what is displayed at the moment.
Just got this message when I tried to refresh this page:
Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to support.mozilla.org. Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s). (Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap)
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem.
please try to refresh firefox and reinstall your bullguard security afterwards and see if this can make a difference.
Thanks, I have 'refreshed' Firefox a couple of times. I will have to investigate how to reinstall Bullguard because, as I said, it is provided as part of my broadband package. I have ethernet and wireless connections. I have tried each independently but still get the same errors with each. I have both connected but use the ethernet as my primary connection. If I have a problem loading a page, dissabling the ethernet usually sparks the connection into life. However, I then have to enable the ethernet to continue using the web. Everybody I have spoken to is puzzled by this problem. I appreciate your efforts on my behalf.
Hi, I have managed to get the 'untrusted certificate' details, it is my internet security: Common name (CN) BullGuard SSL Proxy CA Organisation (O) BullGuard Ltd Organisational Unit (OU) Devel Team
Does this help?
If the certificate is issued by your BullGuard security software then you need to disable HTTP scanning in BullGuard or install the BullGuard root certificate. If you have installed other browser then you can check the certificate chain there and possibly export the root certificate.
hey again gordon, in the past it seems that bullguard's "safe browsing" feature has caused issues like this. you may look into the settings of your security program if something can be tweaked there: http://forum.bullguard.com:81/forum/5/Unable-to-access-Hotmail-or-ot_97616.html
otherwise please get in contact with bullguard's support, who will have a better idea on how to address this issue through their program's settings: https://www.bullguard.com/support/support-schedule.aspx
Thank yo very much for your help philipp. Once I saw that BullGuard was the inhibiting factor, I emailed their support. I am now waiting for a response and hopefully they will have a solution whilst I still have some hair left!
