Can't open iCloud Control Panel on PC

I have the iCloud Control Panel v3.1 installed on my Windows 7 64-bit system. It was working fine using Internet Explorer. I switched to Foxfire and when I attempt to activate the app I get the message "JavaScript is required. To use iCloud enable JavaScript in your browser and try again ... (popup at bottom of page states "Would you like to make Internet Explorer your default browser?") When I look in the Foxfire Add-ins, there is only a Java Deployment Toolkit that is blocked because the plugin is noted to have security vulnerabilities. I give up ... can anyone help guide me on this issue. I would really like to be able to access iCloud without having to use a bookmark each time. Windows Programs does not show any version of Java as having been installed. Thanks to anyone who responds.

All the help provided by everyone who responded to my question is much appreciated. I was actually able to get the problem resolved by going into Explorer and enabling JavaScript there. That seemed to solve the issue and it looks like the iCloud Control Panel now launches using Explorer to do so. That's okay with me, so long as it works.

Please first try to enable javascript in the about:config page. Javascript is not the same as Java.

In Firefox 23, as part of an effort to simplify the Firefox options set and protect users from unintentially damaging their Firefox, the option to disable JavaScript was removed from the Firefox Options window.

However, the option to disable JavaScript was not removed from Firefox entirely. You can still access it from about:config or by installing an add-on.

about:config

  1. In the address bar, type "about:config" (with no quotes), and press Enter.
  2. Click "I'll be careful, I promise"
  3. In the search bar, search for "javascript.enabled" (with no quotes).
  4. Right click the result named "javascript.enabled" and click "Toggle". JavaScript is now disabled.

To Re-enable JavaScript, repeat these steps.

Add-ons

You can alternatively install an add-on that lets you disable JavaScript, such as

  • No-Script (to disable JavaScript on a per page basis, as required)
  • QuickJava (to easily disable and enable JavaScript, automatic loading of images, and other content)
  • SettingSanity (adds back removed options for JavaScript, Advanced JavaScript Settings, loading images, and showing the Tab Bar)

I will assume you mean Firefox instead of Foxfire.

Looking at my addons, I see: Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.290.11 "" is known to be vulnerable. Use with caution.

My version is NOT disabled like you claim yours is. That's odd behavior.

I suggest following answers in This Thread, it appears his issue was solved. Namely Cor-el's answer that the Java Control Panel has an option to enable java for Firefox. If I'm not mistaken, that's a local thing - you might have to install Java locally.

First, though, I would follow guig2's recommendation on disabling and re-enabling javascript. Assuming it's installed in the first place, a surprising number of problems can be solved by turning it off and on again.

I would then ensure your version of Firefox is up to date: right now I believe the latest is 29.0. See if you can update your plugins and don't forget to restart your browser if one is found.

Yes, I mean Firefox v.29.0. Since one of you has this Java Deployment Toolkit activated, wouldn't it just be easier to activate it in Firefox Plugins despite the warning?

Also, I followed guigs2 instruction, but before I disable JavaScript, I just want to ask why I'm disabling it when it's already enabled ... it seems having it enabled is what I want isn't it? Please clarify whether or not I just need to deactivate and then reactivate the JavaScript in about:config.

Obviously, you two have guessed by now that I'm not what one would consider a knowledgeable person when it comes to this kind of stuff. Thanks again for your help.
