The "new tab" tiles can no longer be updated.

Posted

For about a month now the version of firefox on my work pc, the "new tab" tiles can no longer be updated. I can move existing tabs. I cannot add new tabs. Dragging a bookmark over an empty tile opens the link in the "new tab". If I accidentally delete a tile, it is gone forever. Firefox does not prompt me to restore it. I am running the current ver. of Firefox. I even uninstalled/re-installed to see if that had an effect, it did not. Windows7, Firefox 27.0.1

Did you manually start Firefox in private browsing mode, or is the "Always use private browsing mode" option enabled?

If you want to restore tiles you've previously deleted,

  1. Type about:config in the address bar and press Enter.
  2. Press the big button to bypass the warning.
  3. In the search bar, paste browser.newtabpage.blocked
  4. In the search results, right-click browser.newtabpage.blocked and choose Reset.

Your personal data and customizations are stored in your profile folder. This folder is normally not deleted, unless you check the "Remove my personal data…" option when uninstalling.
