when i open a new firefox window in mac osx 10.7 i get a blank page, but not when i open a new tab. Everything was working fine until today.
Yesterday, when I opened a firefox window with command N a new window appeared with my menu and all - normal functioning. Today, when I do the same, I get a blank page. As far as I know, I did not change anything anywhere. Curiously, if I open a tab with command T I get a new page as normally. I added firefox to my allowed programs in the firewall after this started occurring and it did not help.
Running firefox 23.0.1 and osx 10.7.5
Thanks very much!

Could you check to see whether something strange happened to your home page setting: How to set the home page.
If that looks normal, sometimes an extension may override your choice. You could review your extensions and configure/disable/remove as needed:
Tools menu > Add-ons > on the left side click Extensions
Can you get your home page back?
Thanks for thoughts ...
So looked under preferences for firefox. Homepage, google, is fine. Started clicking on tabs in preferences. All ok until got to tab called "applications" then weirdness. This tab showed window with label "applications" written many times horizontally - about 10. So closed and now when open preferences all i get is empty window titled "application" and cannot get back to other tabs in preferences. Extensions are fine, removed them all. Hmmm ... should i just toss firefox in trash and reload? I backed up my bookmarks ...
Windows and Mac have very different ways of working with programs. If throwing Firefox in the trash and downloading a fresh copy leaves your settings undisturbed, then it's worth a try. Hopefully another Mac user can confirm that.
In your settings folder, you could try deleting the toolbar customization file. This might have some effect on dialogs as well.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show in Finder" button
Keeping that Finder window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old
Restart Firefox and check the dialog. Any improvement?
In other threads where the UI behaves strangely, I've seen the recommendation to remove a .plist file. Here's an example: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/959795#answer-438278
