Firefox eating lots of bandwidth on youtube.com
beforehand, I've already scanned my system for malwares and etc. using eset nod32, spybot, malwarebytes, hitman pro. They found nothing. This problem started 3 days ago, when I try to load a video on youtube.com, my dumeter register that it is downloading/buffering data at max bandwidth while the video I wanted to view still not yet playing, and it keeps on downloading large amount of data, it stops only when I close firefox application. but when I use a different browser like chrome or IE10 this problem doesn't happen at all. only in firefox 23.0.1. I've tried reinstalling adobe flash, but still same thing happen.
Do you guys have any suggestion? fix? thank you :)

This looks interesting. I've been having the same problem for quite some time. Firefox (well, avast to be precise, but since all web data goes through Avast and IP belongs to google youtube, it had to be Firefox) has been downloading lots of data while not buffering videos at all. I hope this fixes it, thanks!

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
Hi cor-el,
thanks for your reply. after sorting all my extensions one by one, I've finally found the culprit which is flashgot, somehow its downloading the video even though I didn't want to download it.
