how do i enable javascript for Facebook when Mozilla says it is enabled but obviously it isn't?

more options

Facebook was driving me bonkers with the Script interruption, so I googled, found an add on and added it, but it didn't help, made things worse, so I removed it. Now I can't use Facebook in Firefox. I keep getting a request to enable Javascript. But it is enabled. I have tried everything I can think of. I did the about.config instructions and found it to be on. There were many javascipt entries that were "false" but trying to change them one at a time to "true" didn't work, so I put them back (I hope). I added JS switch and added Enable JavaScript under tools. It is checked. Yet Facebook still tells me it isn't. I am ready to throw my laptop across the room...help, please!

Don't throw away all your personal data just yet.

As a test of how Firefox runs "uncustomized," could you create a new Firefox profile. In addition to bypassing current add-ons and custom settings, it should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

Close Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager as described in this article: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles. Then click Create Profile and accept the default location (to avoid data loss, do not choose any existing folder containing files). Any time you want to switch profiles, close Firefox and return to this dialog.

Does FB work as expected in the new profile?

Can you use Facebook in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

More generally, when you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Thanks for the suggestions, but I had tried them all before. Still, I tried again. Nothing works. I'm thinking the only thing I can do is uninstall Firefox again, but this time uninstall personal preferences, etc. which would be a shame because it would take me days to recover it all. Assuming I could.

I'm happy to say I fixed it by making a new profile and experimenting replacing each folder and file from my original profile -- there are two Javascript files and the pref javascript is the villain...

Thank you for your help!
