I have used msnbc as my home page anjd Bing as my web search. You have changed it to firefox as my home mpage and google as the search engine. This was done without my knowledge and I don't know how to correct your intrusive behavior

Updates normally don't change those settings. Did you lose any other settings?

Is it possible that you have a Microsoft or Bing add-on that was handling the home page and search settings, but it got disabled? You can check here and also check for updates in case it needs updating:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions category

Edit: Actually you are not running the current version of Firefox, so never mind about the theory that an update might have changed your settings. Must have been something else.

I'm not sure how your settings would have changed, but you can set your home page quite easily. On the toolbar, go to "tools-options", and on the "general" tab you can enter the address for your home page. I don't know about the default search engine. My antivirus set the search engine for me, but I would think there would be a way to set that, too.
