Getting random cpv.servefeed.info & cpv.srv-ad.com blank pop-up screens -- how do I resolve?

Running Windows XP SP3 and am using Firefox v-11.0.

Have recently noticed some disturbing blank screen launches with identifier information at base of pages that indicates: cpv.servefeed.info & cpv.srv-ad.com

When these screens come up, I close them but...

...these launches are random and I notice my surfing becomes more and more sluggish over session time. Have been trying to research the issue and find plenty of sites wanting you to follow their "clear" instructions for removal along with downloading their "preferred" software tools. The inference is that it is related to a virus or Trojan of some sort, but there is no recognition of these titles in any of the main security support sites (Symantec, Trend Micro, Kaspersky, etc.). One search link suggests the problem is either being caused by or affects specifically Mozilla itself and recommends a possible solution is to completely uninstall it (saving bookmarks/profiles) then re-install fresh from scratch. Sure I can do that, but right now I can't even confirm anything at all about these particular identifiers from any trusted site.

What is it, what is it doing, how is it introduced onto a system, and what is the correct way to get rid of it?

At this point I don't know who to trust or what direction to take to clear this up properly without risking introducing something else to my system that may expose it to even bigger problems.

Hope you might have some ideas.

I would first update to Firefox 13. You are running a version with several known security holes.

After that, you can try to check if you have any infections on your PC.

Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Download and Run TDSSKiller http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363

Download and Install Microsoft Security Essentials http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials (not an official endorsement, but I personally recommend MSE as an awesome permanent anti-virus)

Double check for all Windows Updates.

You may also want to try to Reset Firefox. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

For me I was using Google chrome and I received the exact same popups. I found out that I somehow installed this extension or plugin called "Click 2 Save". After I uninstalled this plugin i haven't gotten a popup since.

For me I had to go to Google chrome's settings menu and into the Extensions tab. There's a trash can beside the plugin to remove it.

Hi Xodowoda, thanks for the info.

In Firefox, you can disable or remove extensions here:

(WIN) orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions category
(MAC) Tools > Add-ons > Extensions category

Hey Tyler...

Thank you for responding. Funny thing is I originally had Firefox updated to v-13.0 when all this began (had forgotten that I had upgraded). I also stay up-to-date on Microsoft updates for SP3. But I will pursue the other suggestions you have provided to see if anything pops up that could also be of concern -- thank you for the links.

While hoping for some guidance, I blew Firefox away and reinstalled using Firefox v-11.0 then loaded up the BlockSite v-0.7.1.1 extension which allows me to block certain sites of my choosing -- you don't have an option to do so otherwise -- you only have the ability to "accept" sites.

It may not be the best approach, but so far it seems to have solved the visible problem. Now I just have to delve deeper using the tools you've recommended. Thank you very much!

X...thank you for your help. I looked through all my extensions and plug-ins and did not find Click 2 Save but I am grateful for this information. I will be careful NOT to add anything like that in the future -- or remove/disable it in case it rears it's ugly head.
