Why won't captcha images display?

I have been trying to fix this problem now for over a month and cannot come up with a solution. I have already restarted firefox in safe mode with add-ons disabled. I also reset default settings in firefox. I also uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. I disabled my firewall and antivirus protection. This issue is happening on multiple websites, anytime I encounter a captcha image, it appears blank, just a white space. This is also happening in Internet Explorer. I'm having multiple issues with my computer and have been trying to register at bleepingcomputer.com but they require a captcha to register. I can't fix any of the problems without these captcha images displaying. I have read through multiple posts in these forums about this exact issue and none of the "solutions" have worked.

Do the control buttons such as reload and audible appear, or just nothing where the controls should be?

Can you tell whether the images are Recaptcha images hosted by Google? Just wondering whether there is a pattern based on the source of the images. [Edit: The CAPTCHA on bleepingcomputer is a Google Recaptcha.]

I wonder whether SSL could be an issue, since CAPTCHAs might be transmitted and submitted over a secure connection. Have you noticed any problems with secure sites in general? [Edit: The CAPTCHA on bleepingcomputer does not appear to use a secure connection.]

As you can see, I have more questions than answers.

Did you check your security software (firewall, anti-virus) to make sure that they aren't blocking the CAPTCHA images?
