After following ALL procedures to change my home page, when I restart Firefox, the previous home page is still showing.
At some point in the past I installed Bear Share. I removed it from my programs (and verified that it's gone), but every time I start Firefox, "search.bearshare.com" comes up as the home page. Any ideas as to what's going on?

You can look for a "Mediabar" program under "Control Panel > Programs and features"

hey buddy,
i am from India. Here i give the solution. you installed the application from Bearshare software to download music. you first uninstall that application completely. Disable the bearshare toolbar in your browser by View-->Tool bars. Now restart your browser. Your problem will be solved.
even you want to that Bearshare application, install that application without bearshare tool bar while installing
Thank you for your reply.
However, when I View-->Toolbars, I do not see a Bear Share toolbar listed. Do you have any other suggestions?
Open a new tab
- In the address bar type about:config
- Click "I'll be careful, I promise"
- In the filter bar, just below the FF Address bar type: browser.startup.homepage
- Double click and set the value to whatever you want your homepage to be
In the same about:config window. Type bearshare in the filter. If any filter results appear right click them and select "Reset" to clear the values.
Now click Firefox Button and select add-ons (or Tools>Add-ons) Check for anything related to Bearshare
Go to: 'Start > Control Panel' and double click on 'Add or Remove Programs'. You will see a window with a list of the programs installed on your computer. Find the “WinCore Mediabar” name, highlight it by clicking on it, and then click on the 'Uninstall' button (or 'Remove' in Windows XP).
I did as you said to change the home page using about:config (successful). I checked for any references to "bearshare" in about:config (none found). I checked for any Add-ons relating to "bearshare" in about:config (none found). I tried to uninstall "WinCore Mediabar", but it was not there. I restarted Firefox and the home page was still "search.bearshare.com/".
Thanks for your help, iMarshmellow, but the problem remains unresolved.

The two URLs didn't help because I couldn't find the .dll file to remove. But I did find the "Mediabar" program and uninstalled it. I rebooted and the problem was gone.
Thanks, cor-el, for your help!
