Drop down boxes are unstable and lose text/turn transparent since last upgrade
Ever since the last upgrade, drop down boxes in Firefox have been unstable. The appear briefly and then go transparent. Moving the cursor over the transparent box will restore the text for an instant, but it then goes transparent again.

Start Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
Try to disable hardware acceleration.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.
