This has been a recurring problem throughout all the releases of Firefox since I started using Firefox 2. MSN/MSNBC news article pages with a discussion board at the bottom of them has submit buttons that Firefox at least recognizes as form buttons (the cursor changes to the finger), but clicking them does absolutely nothing. They work fine in IE, and even in IE Tab, but they don't work in Firefox at all; never have.

MSN.com is remembering my log in okay; it recognizes my username and gives me the usual pop-up bar it gives when you're logged in, but after typing in my comments, the SUBMIT button simply doesn't work.

URL is an example of a page where the SUBMIT buttons don't work.

Chosen solution

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Disabling all the addons worked, but I'm not having much luck at identifying just which addon is responsible.

I found it was NoScript that was blocking it, but frankly, I'd rather have NoScript than be able to comment on MSNBC.com

Thanks.
