Favicons are disabled for most websites in URL and toolbar??

Running Firefox 4 and windows 7. After upgrading to windows 7, reinstalling firefox, and connecting to my previous profile, MOST of the favicons do not appear in the URL or in bookmarks (toolbar). Tried no history, then history. Cleared cache a number of times. Tried deleting bookmarks and re-adding them. No change.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Firefox (Tools) > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Firefox (Tools) > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Uncheck: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

Firefox has NEVER been running in Private Browsing mode and it is unchecked. I've tried everything I can find in these forums and on the internet, but I'll keep reading and hopefully someone will make a suggestion that I have not tried.

Any more suggestions...??

Did you try the CheckPlaces extension ?

No I did not. Check places? I backtracked ... I uninstalled Firefox, then installed ffx 3.6.16 (or something like that), then upgraded to 4.0, then moved my profiles over to the new folder and it worked. All of the settings remained the same so it is still a mystery.
