Why do I keep getting warnings that what I send out is unencrypted?

Most of the time when I am on a website and try to send out something to it, I get a window warning me that my output is going out unencrypted. I can't find any way to turn on encryption in Firefox. Is this a dangerous problem? If so, is there a way to fix it?

You can get that warning alert if Firefox needs to send a (possibly hidden) form with POST data that was previously entered on a secure web page. You can't suppress that warning.

Excuse me, but I don't know what POST means. Does it contain potentially harmful information such as passwords, credit card numbers, etc.? How can I tell whether or not I should allow the output to be transmitted when I get that warning message?
