Access to my gmail account is fine with Safari or Explorer. Firefox denies access to that same account. I use Firefox for everything else, and switching to Safari for my email account is annoying.

Although possibly not related to your problem, I have to remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. On top of this, it has known unpatched bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum security, stability, performance and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at getfirefox.com.

As for your problem, have you tried clearing your cache and deleting gmail's cookies on Firefox?

Thank you for responding, Morbus. I tried to update to Firefox 3.6.8 but was unable to do so. It had 10 applications that seemed to go along with it and I just couldn't seem to get it loaded properly no matter what I tried.

Any ideas?

Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html

Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean reinstall.

Install the new version that you have downloaded.

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

"Clear the Cache": Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove the Cookies" from sites that cause problems: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

cor-el,

I am sketchy with stuff like this. Please advise if this is what you suggest I do:

1. "Trash the current Firefox application" How do I do that?

2. "Install the new version" I was unable to do that earlier. Will trashing the current version allow me to get the new version?

3. I am apprehensive about losing all my Firefox data. You have shown me how to recover it. Will you help out if I screw it up?

4. "Start Firefox in safe mode" How do I do that?

Thanks so much for your help. I hope you can be patient with a Neanderthal-like user.

Peter
