Thunderbird won't open

On my wife's computer she had to update to Windows 11. Soon after noticed that trying to open Thunderbird produced the error message " Couldn't load XPCOM". Have looked at solutions and the main one is to reinstall. Our worry is that she will lose all her emails. Is this correct? If it is how do we save the emails?
