youtube embedded video doesn't display thumbnail or "play video" box

I have changed settings to "html only" for outgoing messages, and i've taken down my security settings, and i've selected the "add link previews when pasting URL's" setting. however, i still can't see the normal thumbnail or the youtube "play video" box when i embed a youtube video link. any assistance would be greatly appreciated! thank you!

I believe you need to include the thumbnail in the link. That requires more HTML than the link option on the HTML tool bar. Normally, that would mean the HTML source to define the URL, and an 'img src= 'entry to point to the thumbnail.

The embed link always includes an iframe. Iframes are not going to work in Thunderbird email. See the 20 year old bug disabling them https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=248853
