RE: Firefox extremely slow to load pages or connect to Web sites after startup

It's June 2022, and I am using FF64 101.0.1.

My issue is best described by Zaayl (2017) at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1157490, but the working and easiest solution I found was the one offered by delclemons (2018) at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1229621#question-reply.

My starting page is blank. I have an extension that shows my external IP as a country flag when FF starts up. If the flag doesn't show, I know I still cannot connect to any site. Similar to Zaayl's case, my FF can be able to connect to sites only after a certain amount of time, which varies from instant - very rarely - up to over 10 minutes. The wait always gets longer, especially when FF crashes and have to restart.

I've been searching a long, long time for the right fix. I cringe at the idea that I have to reinstall FF every time there's a major issue, like this one. Syncing back bookmarks and passwords and reinstalling the extensions are the easy part. The painful part is having to set details of accounts in the containers afterwards. I am so glad that is over now. Connection to sites is no longer prolonged after FF startup.

Interesting... What is your setup? Example: I'm on a laptop --> router --> modem Who are you using for DNS? Open a cmd prompt and run ipconfig /all. Just want to update everyone concerned.

It's Sept now, and I've been having the same issue since July. It is not resolved by the method above. When the issue is present already, removing the contents in the datareporting folder does not make FF's first connection any sooner.

I suspect the issue comes up if FF did not close down the previous session properly. The problem is it takes a long while before FF pops that error window telling you that, asking you to restart it or quit.

So, even if I executed the Exit in FF, then shutdown the computer, I would never know if it closed down properly - unless I wait for sometime to check if the FF error window pops up before shutting down the computer. For how long? I don't know.

And, if there's an error in closing down indeed, I know the issue will be present in my next FF session. It will be a long wait for FF to connect - again.

If you are experiencing very slow page load speeds on a broadband connection, consider resetting Firefox to remove a buggy add-on or setting change. This will delete all your add-ons, themes, and download history, and return your settings to default. To do this visit “about:support” and click Refresh Firefox.

It's not exactly about very slow page load, but as what Zaayl describes.

Must have thought of deleting everything including folders (as one suggests in the other link) and reinstalling FF a million times over the years, especially during the long wait. Sure, there's the sync for insurance, but what's keeping me from doing it is the thought of, in my case, having to put up the multiple containers all over again. Also, nobody seems to know why the issue is there (I can't find any, so far) and if doing it will ultimately solve the problem.

After weeks of testing, I can safely conclude that, at least in my case, the issue is mainly caused by FF not closing properly or completely.

I read some relevant topics in this forum and discovered that cleaning up FF crash reports and the likes helps a lot. So, I created a batch file to clean the folders and wait at least 30 secs after closing FF before I shutdown the computer. So far, the issue doesn't pop up if I follow the procedure.
