Follow up: I've regained the home button and function by utilizing the old "safe" bow troubleshooting mode. This allowed me to regain the homepage icon and reset, utilizing the customize Firefox and overflow menu tools . . .

Note that some toolbar buttons aren't shown anymore by default useless they had been used. This includes the Home and the Library (bookshelf) and Sidebar toolbar buttons and in such a case you need to drag them yourself from the customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar. If you do not see a button in the Customize palette then click "Restore Defaults".
