Tiny address bar, tabs and bookmarks no matter what I do

more options

Firefox opens and has a teeny tiny little address bar and tabs and everything else displays differently. I've tried making Firefox my default browser. I've tried updating twice. I've tried combing through preferences for anything that might make a difference.

Nothing works. In the picture, for reference, the Apple and menu bar at the very top are normal sized.

I'm gonna be honest, this is the LAST time I'm giving Firefox a chance. If I can fix this relatively simply, I'll do it. If it involves me needing to suddenly know how to be a software engineer and go into an obscure file in an obscure folder of an application and mess with anything that ends in .css, I'm out.

You can check layout.css.devPixelsPerPx on the about:config page. If its default -1 value isn't working for you then try to adjust its value in 0.1 or 0.05 steps (1.1 or 0.9) until icons or text looks right.

  • modifying layout.css.devPixelsPerPx affects user interface and webpages (global zoom)

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can click the button to "Accept the Risk and Continue".

Firefox has a Zoom section in Options/Preferences to set the default zoom level for webpages.

  • Options/Preferences -> General -> Language and Appearance -> Zoom

Thanks for the time you spent, but I'm out.

ikr? It is aggrevating when we have to become technicians.

The other day, a microsoft support rep was trying to help me with a windows issue. He sent me to a technical site and expected me to input like 100 commands. I said, No Way. I dont have time to do your job.

But for your browser, It's odd thing you are having.

Most times, windows controls the size of the fonts. The settings can be found in the Personalization under Control Panel or PC Settings. I always increase my font size to like 175%. But i found one program that continues to use the standard size, which is small for me.

In regards to the technical response you have received, the method is to over ride your windows settings.

If you enter about:config in the url search field, then hit enter, you will find all kinds of little ways to tweek the browser.

But i think this is a windows setting issue. What version you have?

Hi Miss Meg, if you're really done with Firefox, then never mind, but if you have 30 more seconds, cor-el's suggestion is not that complicated:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, paste layout.css.devPixelsPerPx and pause while the list is filtered

(3) The default value of this preference is -1.0 which instructs Firefox to follow your system text scaling level. To customize:

If you have a Retina display:

Double-click the preference value to display an editing field, and change the value to 2.5 (positive, not negative) then press Enter or click the blue check mark button to save the change.

That should increase the text size by 25% on a double-density display. Need more? Double-click and try 3.0 (etc.)

If you do NOT have a Retina display:

Double-click the preference value to display an editing field, and change the value to 1.25 (positive, not negative) then press Enter or click the blue check mark button to save the change.

That should increase the text size by 25% on a standard display.Need more? Double-click and try 1.5 (etc.)

If things go haywire:

Click the arrow button at the right end of the row to reset and start again.
