I get the above message using firefox. When I go to the same site with Crome, the PDF opens with no errors. I have Adobe Reader DC installed.

Do you have enabled the Firefox PDF Viewer ? You can check the Portable Document Format (PDF) entry in "Options/Preferences -> General -> Applications" and make sure it is set to "Preview in Firefox".

One possible reason for this problem is if the page design requires a plugin instead of simply handing the PDF over to Firefox to display in its build-in viewre. Is there a public page you can link to (no login needed) that illustrates this problem?
