you post a procedure and you don't know how to set it?

I merely gave you a link to a discussion and an article to look at, just in case you'd know something about this procedure.

In the mean time I was hoping that you'd consider updating to the current Firefox version, as that would solve the add-ons problem.

Hello sirduffy,

I'm tempted to advice you to update to the latest version, but you will undoubtedly have your reasons for using this old version, so I will spare you the lecture ....

Instead I want to ask you to look at this discussion :

In all honesty : I know too little about this to give you good advice (sorry ..... )

But I'm sure that someone else will be able to explain (or give you other advice).

We're dealing with different time zones, so you may have to wait a while .....

If only I could have been of more help ......  :(

I noticed that you marked my post as Chosen Solution, but as I didn't really solve your problem :

You can remove that mark by clicking on the 'Undo' button to the right.

I really hope that someone else will come to your rescue  !

Unless I can convince you to update to Firefox version 66.0.4 - your problem would be solved if you did ...... (sorry - just had to give it one more try)

Aww, you weren't unkind, and you've got nothing to apologize for, really  !

I'm glad that you got it it to work now - well done  !

McCoy - a huge thank you for the fix for my 56.0.2. Consider yourself hugged big time from here in Canada where I was almost about to defect to Chrome or Waterfox.

The one from reddit worked for me and the instructions there were idiot proof even for this senior who has never dared to follow instructions like those before.

McCoy - thanks again for the tip. I am still quite worried about all those lines of red type that appeared in the console after installing the fix. Guess time will tell if it was a huge mistake.

If it was I'll just move to Waterfox.

I just saw jscher2000 in another thread post the same reddit
link .....

Which means that I'm pretty confident that it was not a mistake  :)

It looks that there is a system Add-on planned for older Firefox version that do not support the hotfix.

  • Bug 1549604 - ship legacy system add-ons to remediate armagadd-on 2.0

McCoy - I'm feeling pretty confident that no mistake was made now. Thank you for the reassurance. It is always nerve wracking to follow instructions you do not fully understand. Everything is working well still. Once again thanks a million.

cor-el - Just read the bug report, they are still trying to get a fix that will work for older versions. I'm wondering how many people will be able to get it though as most of us on the ancient versions of Firefox have updates set to - never check - to prevent being upgraded to the latest version.
