Multiplying Volume Sliders

For every tab opened I get a new volume slider on my volume mixer. These multiply endlessly unless/until I close and reopen it again. Any idea why this is?

I open a lot of tabs in any given session, and none of these are labeled other than "Mozilla Firefox" (no content, etc) so I've no idea which are for what. Gets messy very quickly.

Thanks!

Did you run the System File Check? Reboot the computer. After, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

I did run the sys check just for kicks, no issues there. But your suggestion to attempt safe mode yielded the unlikely culprit - "Firefox Color". A presumably Firefox approved add-on?

Anyway, disabling each add-on one-by-one (of which I only had four), revealed that it was the issue. Everything else was fine. Disabling Firefox Color stopped the multiplying sliders. Bizarre.

Thanks for the suggestions!

How many windows/tabs are open that have a player running?...

There was only one tab w/Youtube open at that time I believe (the amount of tabs open don't effect the amount of sliders present). That's the issue, the multiple sliders don't go away when the tabs are closed, they simply accumulate until I restart the mixer.

Appreciate the help but this is specifically a Firefox glitch, not a problem with the system per se. Edge, Chrome and Opera do not have this issue.

Firefox may keep a volume slider for each tab content process.

Did you check the processes tab in the Windows Task Manager?

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit
