Ever since Firefox automatically installed the last update, bookmarks saves every webpage I go to instead of just those I save via the manual way. This means I get umpteen dozen bookmarks. It also seems to be showing every page I've been to over the last several years. What can I do?

You can remove unwanted history in the History Manager (Library; Show All History). This shouldn't effect the bookmarks, but if you have a lot of history then best is probably to select about a thousand items at the time. I wouldn't recommend to delete thousands of history items at once.

You can type a common character like a colon (:) in the history search bar to get one long list. I usually start at the bottom and use Shift + Ctrl + PageUp to select multiple history items (I do this mainly for this forum). Deleting a 1000 items at the time only takes a few seconds.

Hi, now information was sent at about your Extensions so please what are they ?

see if the keep bookmarking: Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Thanks for your reply. I found out what the problem was. Somehow the bookmarks had changed to History view. I didn't even know that every webpage visited would be kept as history, whether it was manually bookmarked or not. I simply clicked on the star in the menu to get back to all the bookmarks I actually wanted to keep. I don't know if it's possible to delete the history without deleting the bookmarks I want to keep. Maybe someone can help with that? Thanks Bev
