BLS.Gov Requires Java - Support Articles NOT helpful.
I am using a new install of Firefox version 59.0.2 (64 bit) on a new Windows 10 (64 bit) Pro computer.
I require access to the data etc. available on the Federal Goverment's Bureau of Labor Statistics web site but this site requires Java ("This application is designed to work with Java enabled browsers.").
None of the many support articles are helpful in resolving this problem and one of them even says java not available on 64 bit machines. I find this incredible as bls.gov is a government site that is regularly used by many businesses and individuals. Firefox is just too good and too widely used to not be able to use a site such as bls.gov.
I am looking for clear instructions how to make Java work when using Firefox. I strongly want to continue using Firefox because I like it much better than either the Google or Microsoft browsers. I also do not want to use either the Google or MS products because of their reputation (especially Google) for invasive data collection. Please Help.

Hello,
First, would you please take a look at this article :

If you're determined to use Java, you could download the ESR version, as mentioned in the article.
However, would you look at this article and scroll down to 'One Screen', where it says :
" If your computer does not have Java, use the Create Customized Tables (multiple screens) method described below. "
Thanks - I appreciate your suggestions. I previously saw what you are suggesting but the ESR version is intended for "mass deployments" and I am only using a single desktop. I am very reticent to get this version I am am concerned it will open a whole new list of installation decisions etc. that I am not sufficiently knowledgeable about to readily answer and have no desire to open up still another research project. As far as "Create Customized Tables" I do not have a clue how to do that and I am now out of patience researching and implementing solutions to problems to something that should be very simple. Yesterday I discovered the old and wonderful Internet Explorer required no consequential effort at all to make work so, as much as I really like Firefox, I am going to go back to IE. Not sure why Firefox would cause this problem because Java is obviously still very alive and healthy as demonstrated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics requiring its use to access the volumes of data available there.
Thanks again.

The Firefox ESR version can also be used by 'regular' users like you :

As for Java : more and more websites are turning their back on it.

You can use different browsers for different sites/tasks based on which you find most functional. And yes, Internet Explorer 11 is your best choice for sites that still require the Java plugin.
