Windows default browser shows wierd name for firefox

As stated, Windows shows a weird name for the Firefox browser in the default browser section of the settings. I reinstalled 4 times and even did a fresh install and it always shows up like this and it is making me concerned for my data's security. I attached the file to this post.

Chosen solution

I searched the registry and found a string value that points to the firefox.exe in my program files. I'm assuming I need to change that to "Firefox" as that is the "FriendlyAppName" for firefox currently. I attached a screenshot. And yes the exe is still named "firefox.exe" and not something weird like this as suggested above.

Hi, no image. If concerned about security and if only using Win10 stuff that comes with it then you should be. Please use more than 1 scanner as each uses diff tech :

Save your Report and google each before deleting anything as do not want to delete something you need, If need help :

Post in only 1 forum, then wait.

The Default Browser in Windows 10 is Edge. To change to Firefox as the Default Please Click Edge and it will offer you up alternatives where you can select Firefox. Make sure in Firefox Options at the top that the Check Mark is in the box for Firefox to : Always check if Firefox is the Default Browser.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Hi, is strange. I would not be to worried about that. Follow directions on Clicking Edge but Click that Icon instead and see if can Find it as Firefox.

Also please check C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox and that is the name or is it Firefox.exe

I made sure it was still the right EXE, ran multiple scans with a few different anti virus and malware programs and all came up negative for malicious things. Links do open in firefox when clicked so I am not sure why it appears like that, but I still think that this needs to be looked into further by the developers.

Please find the EXE file as per previous post and change the name to firefox.exe all low case. It looks like it just took a registry entry as it's name and who can say if Firefox or if was Windows. As well it is a 1 off and not repeatable.

You can use this for Win10 : *Repair System Registry and Files Find the Dos Prompt or Powershell then Right Click and Run as Administrator then : Copy/Paste to Dos Window : DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth then hit Enter. Reboot when completed. Note : DISM goes up to Microsoft for new files.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

You can search the Windows Registry for this specific string to see what comes up.

It's odd because the installer was listed as "Firefox" in the registry and not that actually Browser. Since the installer was removed I just deleted the registry value for it and renamed it the other one to Firefox and it was fixed. Thanks for all your help.
