Till 750 MB memory use in the new Firefox

more options

For the past few weeks Firefow (the new one) has been using quite a lot of memory. When I look in task management, I notice that most memory used by FIREFOX goes up to 750MB.

There is marked Firefox(4) behind it and when I press the arrow before it, I see that there is 4 times Firefox, each of which consumes memory.

I didn't have this before, then there was just firefox and the memory usage was certainly not so high. Now it sometimes reaches more than 750 MB. Does anyone hesitate to explain and, above all, resolve the problem? All the solutions I have found on the community did not solve the problem at all. If this keeps going on, without a solution I will go to another browser, although I already use Firefox for so many years. Sorry for mistakes, but normally I'm Dutch speaking. I've already tried to reinstall firefox, but for some reason it says on reinstallation that apparently I've already installed firefox before and I think that it will keep everything the same. However, I have first removed everything from Mozilla and firefox that I could find on my PC, also in app data. If I get no solution I will stop using Firefox. Thanks for solution.

That is correct. It is also how Firefox runs using multiprocessor. It is not a problem. https://www.howtogeek.com/332449/whats-new-in-firefox-quantum/

No idea why your PC would say have already installed it before. Not a Firefox Issue Firefox does not do that, if think it does provide screenshot.

Each extension you have running can use up to 20+ megs also. So if each Extension uses 20 megs average you have 240megs of ram being used by them.

https://www.howtogeek.com/334594/stop-complaining-that-your-browser-uses-lots-of-ram-its-a-good-thing/

No idea how many Gigs of ram you have. Just because can rin Win10 does not mean it should. If 4 gig go to Extended Release Version https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/ If 8gigs also think about it, also resize Trash Can to something realistic as uses room and ram, Stop having everything run at startup and turn off some services you do not need. Uninstall Win10 Programs you do not use that can be uninstalled, Go through every setting in Win10 Settings and turn off everything that has no reason to be turned on or is not being used. If 16, should not have a issue but do above. If 32 like me then laughing.

If having issues can reduce the processors being used : You could try this please : Go the Menu then Tools --> Options --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 0 = No Multi-proccesor = slow again. TRY 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thank you for answer. But.... Your answer don't resolve the problem. I have the problem om 3 laptops (with the same applications and settings on it), so on 1 of them I reinstalled Firefox 56.02. With the same extentions and the same addon's, and with the same tabs open it only uses 53,2 MB, while on the one with the new version of Firefox it uses 532 MB. So don't fool me. The latest version of firefox may be faster but uses 10 x more memory. I have 8GB, that is not the problem, but I don't want them to be used in that way. I think there is a problem with this "new" version, and I know that I am not the only one who don't likes the memory use of it. I know already 27 persons who went back to 56.02 version, and think about leaving Firefox if there is not a solution for this new problem. Hopefully there wille be a solution soon, otherwise....

All 27 will find them selves force updated to 57+ 56.0.2 is insecure and is a security risk.

As I say often. Just because can run Win 10 does not mean you should with low resources. 8gig of ram is almost unusable these days. 16 is the minimum. https://www.howtogeek.com/334594/stop-complaining-that-your-browser-uses-lots-of-ram-its-a-good-thing/

This is the fix to adjust the multiprocessors being used once running 57.02 You could try this please : Go the Menu then Tools --> Options --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 0 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. TRY 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please. Go to 0 Will be the same as running 56.02. fyi: people had a lot of problems on 56.02 also as multiprocessor is turned on there also.

Going back : unfortunately 56.0.2 and below is no longer safe to use for every day use do to secuity issues, but 52.5.2 ESR is. It will continue to get security updates until May 2018, and you can download and install it from this page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/ Note : Legacy Extensions will be deleted or removed in any version update after May 2018.

You should make a backup of your Profile before going back and just because: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

I am running Windows 7, and I am having the same problem as this person. Firefox 57 gradually goes up to using 2 – 3 gigs of RAM within 5 minutes or so of having the browser open. I tried your suggestion of going to the Menu then Tools-> Options-> Performance and unchecked the box in front of "Use Recommended Performance Settings" and changed the number of processes to be used to 1, but it still runs 4 or 5 processes after exiting Firefox and restarting it. Do you have a suggestion for me? I'm attaching a screenshot of what I'm talking about along with my task manager being open, so you can see how much memory it's using. Usually it gets up to 95% of the memory being used, which makes everything slow to almost a stop.
