How can I delete my current email address and insert my new one?

I do not want to delete my account altogether- just change my email address. I have added my new address as a secondary address but really want it to be my only address as I intend to stop using my old address soon. I can't find a facility to make these changes.

Are you talking about Sync? It is not currently possible to change the primary e-mail address.
