Since update to Firefox 57.0 (64 bit), every time I launch Firefox, I get "Sorry, We're having trouble getting your pages back." Every time.

Ever since the update to Firefox 57.0 (64 bit), and even though I click the exit or shut down button on Firefox, every single time I launch Firefox, I get, "Sorry, We're having trouble getting your pages back." page instead of my homepage. I usually am not interested in restoring or starting on the pages I last looked at when I last used Firefox. I would much rather start at my homepage instead. What can I do to fix this?

Thanks FredMcD However, I accidentally resloved the problem myself. Under Privacy settings, I switched my History settings to: Firefox will use custom settings for history Then I checked "Clear history when Firefox closes" and now every time I close and reopen Firefox, I get my homepage (which is set to Google Advance Search) and the annoying "Sorry, We're having trouble getting your pages back." is gone. I had my history set like this originally before the update decided to switch all my stuff back to default.

Thanks Firefox Dev team for resetting my privacy settings to defaults. I don't appreciate having to go through my settings, trying to remember what I had things set at before your update reset them for me.

Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar.

There are two settings;

  • When Firefox Starts

When the browser is started, what do you want to display? Many of us choose Show My Home Page.

  • Home Page

When a new page is opened, what do you want to be displayed?

  1. Use Current Page. Use what ever page(s) are open at that time.
  2. Use Bookmark
  3. Restore To Default. about:home shows a Mozilla home page with tools.

You can use any of these that you wish;

about:home (Firefox default home page), about:newtab (shows the sites most visited), about:blank (a blank page),

or you can enter any webpage or about: page you want.

That was very good work. Well done. Please flag your last post as Solved Problem so others will know.

Will Firefox/Mozilla keep Firefox 56.0.2 (64 bit) updated until 57.0 is "fixed". If not I'll have to abandon FF ......so sad, because I really preferred Firefox to other browsers, but 57.0 is just too much of a "change" for this lady. I had absolutely no problem with other versions, but this one is not for me.

Please give us the option of 56 vs 57.0 or I have leave......been nice and thanks!

Install Older Version Of Firefox {web link} Be sure to read everything here.

If you still want to downgrade, look under; I still want to downgrade. Click the Directory of other versions and languages link. Look for the directory of the version that you want. But, remember that old versions may have security issues.

Thank you, but this did not answer my question, I don't think. I'll try to clarify 1. I downloaded 57.0......I don't like it, and do not intend to download it at this time. 2. I did a System Restore on my Windows 7 to revert back to 56.0.2 and it worked. I would like to keep using 56.0.2, but only if it is going to be kept updated.

My question is: Will Mozilla/Firefox still support 56.0.2 by keeping it secure.

If not, I will stop using it. I don't like anything about 57.0 and I just don't have the time to download all the add on's and extras .

Thank you.

That version is no longer supported, meaning there will be no further updates on it.

So sorry to hear that; I hope Mozilla/Firefox will listen to it's users and make some big changes to this format.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, Fred. Have a nice day:)
