Before giving up on Firefox 57, you can turn on the menu bar using the toolbar list. Either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank spot on the tab bar (or the "+" button)
  • (menu bar) View > Toolbars
On Windows, tap the Alt key to activate the menu bar temporarily.
  • in Customize mode > Show/Hide Toolbars (see: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars)

To turn on the Bookmarks Toolbar, Menu Bar, or other bars, click it on the list.

Also, there is a "real" bookmarks menu button available for the toolbar. You can add it from Customize, or use the "Library" button as described in the article linked below:

Does that help?

Your answer certainly helped - many thanks. But it is very disappointing that was not made clear when I downloaded the update. I think that many software suppliers take it for granted that all users understand how a new site, or newly launched version of a site, works, without the need for clear instructions. They should try to look at their site - before launching - from the point of view of a lay user or, better still, get such a person to trial it before launching.

There is a 6 to 8 week "beta" test period before release, but because there were so many critical changes, probably less attention was paid to button discoverability than in a normal release. I wish it had been there. It's the first thing I add!
