When the window covers up the taskbar I can't figure out how to show it. When I do it stays that way for a few seconds and then covers it up again. How do I set Firefox so that it defaults to some kind of normality?

Hi, you may be in Full Screen Mode: Point to the top of the screen, then right click > Exit Full Screen Mode. You can also press the F11 key, but depending on the configuration of your computer, you may also need to hold down Fn at the same time. More - Use Firefox in Full Screen mode.

I suspect it is Windows settings not Firefox's that you are after.

If you take your pointer to the bottom of the screen, the hidden taskbar should appear. Click on it and it will stay in place until you click on the task bar item you are after. This is certainly the setting I would recommend.

To make changes the easiest way - I have W10 but I think W8 will be similar - is to enter "Taskbar" in the Windows Search Box(next to the Windows Start Button). You can then try out the various settings. You can set the taskbar to always show and take up a bit of space.
